Louisiana depends on it

cypress-blog.gif

The wetlands of Louisiana are dissipating at an accelerated rate. Cypress trees are a major component to the wetland ecosystem. They retain sediment, prevent erosion and protect people who live in densely populated areas such as New Orleans when storms come. As the the United States is working to invest billions to restore the wetlands, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Wal-Mart are selling Cypress mulch. Most of coastal Louisiana is privately owned or claimed to be. Landowners have been selling their property to companies who mulch the trees (bark, branches and all). To find out how you can help prevent the deforestation of coastal Louisiana visit saveourcypress.org.

Thanks for helping to get the word out. The better educated consumers are the greater the chance they will make the right choice and buy sustainable mulch or use some clippings/leaves from their own yard (the way nature intended).

Protect our coast and stop global climate change. Don’t buy Cypress Mulch.

BTW: It is not just Louisiana that depends on it. All of the Gulf States are under the same threat from the cypress mulch industry. Especially Florida who is suffering from constant growth which equates to unparalleled habitat loss.

Thanks for the helpful post. I have visited many sites that have been a complete waste of time. It is good to come across a site that actually helps and informs the users…
